Ford's comments on the MCP Nylon Vacuum Casting Process

How functional can your prototypes really be ?

Ford has also installed nylon casting at its European RP centre in Dunton, Centre Manager, Richard Wooldridge said, "We see the nylon casting process as a cost effective alternative to injection moulding short runs of nylon prototypes - considering the time and cost implications associated with the production of aluminium tooling. Typically we will be using it for prototypes that our engineers have insisted are made from production intent materials-anything functional that will eventually be injection moulded in nylon. These could be live hinges or parts that work under pressure or carry hot water. These can then be subjected to real life testing to assess their true functionality."
