    Ambassador In the years 2005 / 2006 presents Germany itself a multitude of standing-out cultural events, more economic and more scientific projects to the people in Japan. In order to be awaken their new interests with a newer and fresher German images for the traditionally very good relationships between our countries.
    With more than 300 events we want to show that Germany is not only a very good position of economy and an important culture country but also a country of the ideas, creativity, the art and the love of life.
    I would be happy, if especially the young persons in Japan use the chance, to learn and know this Germany better.
    I might thank all Japanese and German friends, who give us thereby the cooperation, and then this initiative becomes a success.

    1.2) Main ideas of German Year 2005/2006
    German Year 2005/2006 in Japan will mediate the Japanese people a picture of the modern life and the diversity of Germany, furthermore the power of the traditionally positive German picture :
    - a display the chram points of Germany, especially in the areas of Lifestyle, design, fashion and consumer goods;
    - the presentation of Germany as scientifically and technologically leading country in Europe and as a economic country with high potentiality for the economic exchange with Japan;
    - the display of Germany as a country, in which it is profitable to travel, to study, to work and to live;
    The German Year is composed of an extensive events programm and a Japanese wide mass media initiative.
    Over 300 events occur in the whole country. Beside the federal government have the countries of the Federal Republic of Germany, culture- and economic institutions, industrial firms, which contributed Japanese-Germans companies, partner cities and many private initiatives to it, that the German Year becomes will present itself with an interesting program.

    Maus 1.3) The Mascot of the German Year; "The MausTM"
    The mouse blinks and winks with gigantic eyes, although she speaks personally no word, but she raises funny and exciting discovery, surprise and worm laugh jointly with their friend, the small, blue elephant.
    She sticks their nose interests in each theme and goes the things curiously on the reason. She can explain personally most complicated facts easily understandably. Everything, which she tackles, becomes uncomplicated from the usual virews and expressed believably.
    'The Broadcast with the Mouse', a German programm for family information is very popular at greater part. Since over 30 years this is the most popular programm for children in the German television. The mouse is beloved and trusted by young- and old-people in Germany. She is a symbol for information, education and entertainment, and she represents Quality and Competence, and she makes joke.
    In a short word, the mouse is the ideal messenger for German Year 2005/2006 in Japan.
