The biggest Wind Plant

Highest Quality !
Wind Sensors PROFESSIONAL for a Grear Demand !

At the end of August, 2005 the hurricane Katrina hit southeast Louisiana in the US, whose lowest pressure was 902 hPa and highest wind was 78 m/s (280 km/h or 175 mph). The Katrina was as a Category 5 biggest hurricane caused devastation and destruction. And at least more than 1,700 people lost their lives in Hurricane Katrina and in the subsequent floods. In Japan the Typhoon Maemi hit Okinawa, southern Japan in Autumn 2003. whose lowest pressure was 912 hPa, highest wind was 38.4 m/s and the maximum instantaneous wind was 74.1 m/s. The environmental destruction is not the main reason but it seems that the typhoon (or hurricane) is getting bigger and much brutal. This typhoon damaged unexpectedly.
At that time there are several wind power stations operating for a few years there, however some blades and nacelles were broken, and furthermore towers (Taper monopole) were bending to the ground in the worst case. All stations were injured and stopped wind power operation. According to an investing report on injuries the collapse made power failure at all sites and all records including wind speed and output power were impossible. The simulation was done and wind parameters (speed and direction) were estimated, then the highest wind was 60 m/s and the maximum instantaneous wind was 90 m/s that ware bigger than wind values reported by the meteorological observatory, those values were unexpected. This area of Okinawa is windy and hit often by typhoon, however the clean energy as wind must be used and no wind power stations go against the times. Hence the wind power stations were again planed in consideration of design wind criteria for each site according to the experimental data. On this occasion Lambrecht's Professional wind sensors were marked out, because the Professional wind sensors are designed for the wind speed 75 m/s and then the survival wind over speed is max. 100 m/s as a gust. Of course Firm Lambrecht cannot test them under real typhoon but tested on the special speed test stand. The Professional wind speed sensor and wind direction sensor were installed on a nacelle at a wind power station on August 2007. In Autumn 2007 these renewable wind power stations were hit 2 times by typhoon with highest wind 35.5 m/s and 32.4 m/s. The Professional sensors are operating beyond expectation.
The right photo doesn't show this text but Lanbrecht's wind sensors were installed on the nacelle. This wind power plant was installed in Laasow, Germany on September 2006 and its hub height is 160 m, blade diameter is 90 m and so the overall height is 205 m with 2.5 MW. It is the highest wind power plant in the world.

Last updated : January 2005 (October 2004)

From May 2004 Firm Lambrecht in Germany began to sell classic and newest Wind Sensors called "Professional", which is a successor of "Meteorology" and maintains high accuracy as the sensors of "Meteorology". In Japan we began to receive the order from Autumn 2004.
We had 10 typhoons which struck Japan in 2004. We have heard that these classic wind sensors can measure till 60m/s in wind speed, but some sensors were broken because of the strong wind. These "Professional" sensors are applied till 100m/s in gust, and can measure till 75m/s from 0.3m/s.

Lambrecht's WindsensorsSpecial features
¤ Wide measuring range of 75m/s for wind speed
¤ Low starting value of 0.3m/s
¤ Aerodynamic optimized housing design
¤ Magnetical Positioning Encoder System
¤ Seawater resistant and hard coated aluminium housing

Typhoon Landing to JapanLast Updated : January 2005

Last year of 2004 our earth was hit by natural disasters. In Japan there were 29 typhoons till December 2004, and 10 typhoons among them, that is 1/3, struck Japan. In summer the high atomospheric pressure in the Pacific (shown with red line) were very strong, the typhoons were born in the east sea of Philippine and the typhoon were coming along the edge of this high pressure to the north.
On December 26, 2004 the big earthquake occurred in Sumatra and the Tsunami hit and brought the biggest disasters on many countries.
Everyone of ours has to get serious about environmental protection for the Earth.

At the end of November we visited 4 companies in Germany as Klocke Nanotechnik, Wilh. Lambrecht GmbH, Kappa opto-electronics GmbH and nanotools GmbH. We had meaningful meetings with them and we want to use theses experiences to support customers.

Wilh. Lambrecht GmbH : which locates in Goettingen city and was established in 1859. The name of Lambrecht is famous among the meteorology people. The Automatic weather station is installed near the main gate and the live weather report of the Goettingen is announced always in his home page.

LambrechtThe 10 m main mast for the wind measurement is based on the WMO standard and 3 Drum recorders for temperature, humidity and so on are working in the large instrument shelter near the main gate. There is a big parking lots of 100 cars in own site and there are 200 employees in the golden ages.
In the factory tour we have seen machining, assembling and inspection. There are still hand-made parts and we are surprised to see the human hair check, which was used for a Polimeter (Humidity measurement) developed by the company's founder Wilhelm Lambrecht in 1877. A wind tunnel is also installed and Cup Anemometer and Quatro were checked.
When we visited, the service seminar of Automatic weather station was opened for the meteorology people in Iran and we attended the seminar. We were explained about the general meteorological instruments and got finally the Certificate of the attendance.

We will renew our leaflets like new Lambrecht's General Catalogue.

Founded in 1859, the Wilh. Lambrecht GmbH develops, manufactures and distributes meteorological instruments. From the classic meteorological products to the most advanced ones Firm Lambrecht takes over consulting, project management, production and quality assurance out of one hand at customers' request. The Japanese catalogues are published for each meteorological fields.

Wind profileHandheld InstrumentsDrum Recorders

Wind Profile This catalogue includes the meteorological products from classical Wind run indicator and Mechanical wind recorder to the latest innovative Static wind/weather sensor "QUATRO". The QUATRO, rugged and reliable, all solid-state without moving parts, incorporates an innovative wind speed and direction measurement system that detects thermal field valiations (TFV) caused by the wind flowing past a heated cylinder, which is not the ultrasonic wind sensor as other manufacturers. The QUATRO can measure wind speed up to 80m/s in all climatic zones and is now operating on the peak of the klein Matterhorn in the Swiss Alps on 3980m above sea level since 1998. Extream temperatures to -40 degrees and the high wind speed of 70m/s have been recorded and the extream occurence of lightning strokes are regular operating conditions. Then the QUATRO can measure not only wind direction and speed but also Temperature, Relative humidity and Barometric pressure as all-round weather and ice-free sensor. This technical data is superior and not competitive with other ultrasonic wind sensors. The catalogus includes examples of fixed 10m mast and mobile 6m mast too.
Handheld Instruments This catalogue includes mainly classical meteorological instruments and handheld, portable types, which Firm Lambrecht treasurs. Then the catalogue includs short and important notes for humidity, temperature, drum recorder, precipitation, radiation and wind.
Drum Recorder In 1877 Firm Lambrecht developped the Polymeter using human hair, which measures humidity. This human hair is still an important measuring elements of Hygrometers. Whenever short responce times, quick humidity changes, humidity value under 25% and temperature below -10 degrees occur, of course the other special measuring element called PERNIX® is built in the drum recorder with extra cost. It is priority products in demand.

Automatic weather stationMilitary standard AWSAWS for aviation metorology

Automatic meteorological station and Mobile automatic weather station For weather monitoring in several applications as industrial plants (general application), the safety of other tactical demands (Military application) and airports (air traffic safety) the availability of reliable meteorological data is a major subject. Each leaflet includs brief explanation for application. If you need the detailed catalogus, please ask us using E-mail.

There are many untouchable parts about the weather, which is basic factor in our highly industrialized world and is often measured and observed. Everybody is somehow affected by meteorological influences, and often economic success as well as public life depend on reliable weather measurements and forecasts.

classicWind Sensor

You can get the famous Lambrecht meteorology products. Founded in 1859, the Wilhelm Lambrecht GmbH manufactures all meteorological instruments. You can easily get a classical Thermo-Hygrograph, Barograph and a digital instruments of new generation, for example, "Meteo-Digit", which displays temperature, humidity, wind speed and wind direction only one unit. There is a small Barometer too. Regarding the wind, one of mechanical wind sensors (Industry), the Wind vain is still popular. In 2000 Firm Lambrecht developed the static wind sensor called "Quatro", which are well received. It has not moving sensor parts and no wear, lower maintenance cost. It is combined sensor for wind speed and wind direction. There are many types according to the environmental conditions. Wind sensors of "Quatro-MET" and "Quatro-NAV" are for wind speed and wind direction, weather sensor of "Quatro-IND", "Quatro-NAV" and "Quatro-MIL" are for wind speed, wind direction and relative humidity. There are "Quatro" with heating system under the most severe conditions in any climate.

Ice-Free Sensor "QUATRO"
EUMETNET is a network of 18 National Meteorological Services: those of the EU plus Iceland, Norway and Switzerland. They tested several sensors during the winter 2001/2002 under heavy atmospheric icing conditions. The "Quatro" was also selected. This paper called "The EUMETNET EW II PROJECT" was translated into Japanese.
1 Background
Ice and rime accretion upon meteorological sensors due to atmospheric icing is a major problem for accuracy of measurements done in cold climate conditions at high latitudes and high altitudes. Most of present sensors operated .......
